PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Perform journey-level duties in the repair and maintenance of locks and related parts on lockers and doors; make duplicate keys, develop and maintain master key systems; install and anchor new equipment for security purposes.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

      Minimum Education:         

            High school diploma or GED preferred 

 

      Certification / License:

      Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license

 

      Special Knowledge/Skills:             

      Follow oral and written instructions and to work cooperatively with others

      Ability to read a variety of correspondence, lists, forms, work orders, etc.

      Perform basic computer tasks

      Demonstrate general knowledge associated with ability to operate tools (hand and power) in a

      safe and efficient manner

      Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of locksmith work and other

      trades required of the position

      Knowledge of the maintenance requirements of locksmith and related equipment

      Possess general knowledge of the Maintenance Department’s organization and operation

      Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills required to achieve

      the goals of the position

 

       Work Conditions
       Equipment/Tools Used: Saws, drills, hammers, screwdrivers, chisels, pliers, scrapers, knives, etc.
       Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting;

       work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
       Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead

       reaching
       Lifting: Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently
       Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent

       exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, high level of noise, vibration, and work

       around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; prolonged

       and irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel
       Regular attendance is an essential function

 

      Minimum Experience:

            1-year experience in maintenance or related field is preferred.

                       

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Install new locks; repair, open and remove locks; disassemble locks; clear keyways of obstructions; repair, replace and alter worn tumblers, springs and other parts.
  2. Operate key-cutting machines to make or duplicate new keys as required.
  3. Develop and maintain master key systems; maintain records and security of duplicate keys.
  4. Troubleshoot, repair, replace and maintain a variety of metal and wood doors, closers, panic bars, door holders, hinges and install latches and dead bolts and other security and/or emergency hardware
  5. Install and anchor new equipment for security purposes; maintain records and security of keys to anchoring devices.
  6. Operate a variety of equipment, tools and machines such as saws, grinders, sanders and hand tools.
  7. Maintain a variety of records and files including comprehensive records of key numbers and lock locations, district key files and records of work orders and inventories.
  8. Respond to emergency key needs, which includes both daytime and after regular hours, when keys are lost or locks are broken.
  9. Assist in maintaining master key systems; maintain records and security of duplicate keys.
  10. Operate a District vehicle to obtain parts and drive to District locations to perform work
  11. .Use the computerized work order and inventory system to maintain accountability of equipment repair and parts.
  12. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  13. Follow applicable laws, codes and regulations including: building, fire, safety, and handicap.
  14. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  15. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  16. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
