PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate instruction and activities, both in and outside of
the regular classroom environment, in order that students may learn and interact safely and
effectively.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High School Diploma & meet the District’s formal academic assessment required by Every
Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
Associates (or higher) degree OR 48 college credit hours
Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
Meet the rigorous standard of quality required by the district

Work effectively and harmoniously with students, parents and school personnel
Follow written and/or oral directions and to exercise good judgment
Effective verbal and written communications skills
Manual dexterity and physical capabilities to perform all job requirements
Work well with children and effectively manage large and small groups
Physical/Mental abilities:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals;
copy machine
Posture: Prolonged standing; moderate walking; occasional sitting, bending/stooping,
pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Some repetitive hand motions including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional
reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 40 pounds)
Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather);
exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
Regular attendance is an essential function
Minimum Experience:
The experience of having worked with students and parents is preferred. This experience
may be work in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed
day-care or similar experiences
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Assist with the supervision of children during regular play periods.
- Guide children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
- Assist teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
- Alert the teacher to special needs of individual children.
- Foster good eating habits and table manners in children.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Student Management
- Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
Other
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Performs such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned
