PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, assist in maintaining and preparing athletic fields for competitive events along with taking care of the nursery.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

      Minimum Education:         

            High school diploma or GED preferred

            Current & valid  Driver’s License - required

 

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      General knowledge of landscape maintenance

      Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructions

      General knowledge of the Maintenance Department’s organization and operation

      Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the

      goals of the position

      Demonstrated knowledge of athletic field equipment and set up

      Demonstrated ability to work under time constraints to ensure achievement of completion

 

     Work Conditions:  
     Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including

     backhoe, tractor, grader; and power mower
     Posture: Frequent standing, climbing stairs, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling,

     and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
     Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and

     overhead reaching; frequent driving
     Lifting: Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of

     force frequently to repair and/or move equipment and objects

     Environment: Frequent changes in tasks; Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces;

     frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures and all weather conditions, dust, high

     noise level, vibration; exposure to chemicals, fuels and electrical hazards; work around machinery

     with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular or prolonged days/hours; frequent

     districtwide travel
     Mental Demands: Frequent changes in task; maintain emotional control under stress
     Regular attendance is an essential function

 

      Minimum Experience:

            One year of related experience preferred

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Keep stadium and nursery grounds neat and clean including, but not limited to, sidewalks, bleachers, driveways and parking lots, by mowing, sweeping, washing and edging.
  2. Must be present to maintain stadium during events.
  3. Report all emergency situations, maintenance and safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
  4. Maintain accountability of tools, equipment and supplies assigned to stadium and nursery.
  5. Prepare and maintain stadium and north nursery field for all UIL competitive events.
  6. Provide cultural care of turf, trees and shrubs.
  7. Perform necessary maintenance on equipment and tools.
  8. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  9. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  10. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
