PRIMARY PURPOSE:

            Perform all Custodial cleanliness tasks and to insure a safe, clean, healthy school campus.

            Perform tasks as assigned to assist in all District performance goals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:       

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

                       

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Leadership skills to effectively give direction to other employees to insure the completion of all assigned Custodial tasks

Read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures

Basic computer skills- understanding District software, approving employee time sheets, submitting work orders and ordering Custodial Supplies

Communicate verbally and in writing to other staff concerning requirements of the job and other information important to the job

Read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures

Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance

Operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment

Basic understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to know the proper dilution of chemicals

 

Work Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Including but not limited to buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner,  electric drill, hand tools

Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, and overhead reaching

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis; occasional exertion of a heavy force (50 lbs or greater)

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials; exposure to high noise levels; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours

Mental Demands: Freqnet cahnges in task; maintain emotional control under stress

Regular attendance is an essential function

Minimum Experience:  Custodial experience desired but not required                                    

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Supervise all campus custodial staff in their performance of all daily assigned Custodial maintenance duties in assigned work areas and perform all individual assigned duties.       
  2. Work closely with District Custodial and any other Amarillo ISD staff at assigned campus
  3. Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
  4. Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean.
  5. Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
  6. Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
  7. Organize and assist with lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.
  8. Responsible for cleaning the cafeteria both during and after breakfast run. Picking up trash and mopping spills in all classrooms designated as Breakfast in Classroom (BIC).  
  9. Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.
  10. Organize and set up facilities for special events.
  11. Understand, verify and approve individual clock in procedures.
  12. Assist with opening and closing building each school day checking to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
  13. Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
  14. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  15. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  16. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  17. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  18. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
