PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, operate heavy equipment used in routine maintenance to include dump trucks, backhoe, trencher, tractor (with assorted implements), front-end loader, snowplows, etc.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

      Minimum Education:         

      High school diploma or GED, preferred

 

      Certification / License:

      Must possess a valid Driver’s license

 

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      General knowledge of landscape maintenance

      Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructions

      General knowledge of the Maintenance Department’s organization and operation

      Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills required to

      achieve the goals of the position

      Ability to operate tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner

      General knowledge of various types of heavy equipment vehicles.

      Capable of assessing site conditions and initiating proper and logical steps to address

      problems/situations and ensure safety of equipment.

 

Work Conditions:      

Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, grader; and power mower  

Posture: Frequent standing, climbing stairs, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently to repair and/or move equipment and objects

Environment: Frequent changes in tasks; Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures and all weather conditions, dust, high noise level, vibration; exposure to chemicals including herbicides and fertilizers, fuels and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular or prolonged days/hours; frequent districtwide travel

Mental Demands: Frequent changes in task; maintain emotional control under stress

Regular attendance is an essential function

           

      Minimum Experience:

      One year related experience

                       

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Perform emergency repairs for all maintenance divisions.
  2. Operate backhoes, ditching machines, tract loaders and rubber tire loaders.
  3. Transport necessary equipment to various job sites.
  4. Operate dump trucks to transport various materials.
  5. Operate any equipment necessary to complete assigned job.
  6. Perform necessary maintenance on equipment and tools.
  7. Perform work order record keeping and other documentation.
  8. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  9. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  10. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
