OPEN UNTIL FILLED
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior and interior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification
High School Diploma or GED – preferred
Licensure
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade
Ability to properly apply paints/ Mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, enamel, and other finishes.
Considerable knowledge of safety standards/precautions which pertain to painting
Knowledge of and ability to mix paint to match colors
Ability to estimate materials and time required to complete various tasks.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work cooperatively with others.
Ability to work independently
Work Conditions Tools/Equipment Used: Painting and drywall tools and equipment including brush, roller, spray equipment sand and water blaster; small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel; maintain emotional control under stress
Minimum Experience
3 years experience in painting field- preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Maintenance and Repair
- Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
- Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
- Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
- Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
- Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses; maintain delivery records.
- Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
- Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
Safety
9. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe
operating condition.
10. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and
climbing.
11. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
12. Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established
procedures.
13. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not
immediately correctable to supervisor.
14. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Other
15. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator
Code of Ethics.
16. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None; however, the employee may be expected to give guidance and direction to less experienced or seasonal employees.
