PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under minimum supervision, maintains commercial kitchen equipment in school kitchens.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High School diploma or GED
EPA Universal Tech Certification –preferred
Certification / License:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Follow oral and written instructions and to work cooperatively with others
Ability to read a variety of correspondence, lists, forms, work orders, etc.
Perform basic computer tasks
Demonstrate general knowledge associated with ability to operate tools in a safe and efficient manner
Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
Manage time effectively
Be able and willing to learn and use online work order system and/or email.
Work Conditions Equipment/Tools Used: Saws, drills, hammers, screwdrivers, chisels, pliers, scrapers, knives, etc. Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching Lifting: Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, high level of noise, vibration, and work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel Regular attendance is an essential function
Minimum Experience:
Two years experience repairing commercial kitchen equipment or similar experience or acceptable alternative.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Check with food service technician, e-mail, preventative maintenance schedule, and work order system for any recent assignments or duty assignments changes at the beginning of every work day.
- Prioritize daily work by order of importance to ensure the most important projects are completed as early as possible that day.
- Order and pick up repair parts as needed.
- Follow up as needed on outstanding parts on order and complete any tasks from the day before or which were left unfinished.
- Perform preventative maintenance including, but not limited to, blowing out compressors, changing filters, and cleaning/deliming ice machines and dish machines.
- Diagnose problems including multiple brands of dish machines, ice machines, ovens, ranges, freezers and refrigerators including walk-in type, milk boxes, and beverage coolers.
- Recover or charge Freon out of or into refrigeration units following environmental guidelines and good refrigeration practices.
- Work with potential hazards including, but not limited to, hot grease, natural gas, corrosive compressor gasses and oils, electricity in voltages from 12VDC to 360 VAC, and cleaning chemicals.
- Use all types of repair equipment including a vacuum pump, recovery system, refrigerant gauges, multi meter, analog meter, and others that may be required.
- Responsible for school-provided repair equipment and vehicle.
- Follow safety standards when using all equipment including your own hand tools.
- Perform quality work with a professional and courteous manner around all staff and students, trying to disturb daily kitchen routines as little as possible.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
