PRIMARY PURPOSE:

        Manages student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the school within the

        defined neighborhood

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

        Minimum Education/Certification:     

                High School Diploma

                Experience working with school age children preferred

                Some college hours preferred

 

        Special Knowledge/Skills:

                Knowledge of instructional practices in a school setting

                Ability to follow a lesson plan

                Effective communication and interpersonal skills

                Conflict resolution skills

                Discipline management skills

                Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds

                Technology skills preferred

 

        Work Conditions:

                Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and

               peripherals

                Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

                Motion: Repetitive hand motions including keyboarding; reaching

                Lifting: Lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds)

                Environment: Must be able to work with frequent interruptions and maintain professional

               demeanor under stress; must be able to work flexible hours including summer and evening

               work; must wear professional attire                         

 

        Minimum Experience:

               High school diploma

               Prior employment experience in a school setting preferred

 

                               

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  2. Maintain a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies.
  3. Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  4. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  5. Report to office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary.
  6. Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
  7. Implement lesson plans while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
  8. Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building.
  9. Collect and place students’ papers in designated area as noted by classroom teacher.
  10. Return instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place.
  11. Determine if substitute teaching services will be required for the next school day.
  12. Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies.
  13. Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
  15. Participate in Neighborhood Substitute professional development.
  16. Collaborate with assigned mentor.
  17. Substitute teach work a minimum 3 days per week in identified Neighborhood Campus(es).
