PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in person and/or by virtual instruction in the subject area assigned designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

            Minimum Education/Certification:       

                        Bachelor's degree from accredited university

                        Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject/level assigned

 

            Special Knowledge/Skills:

                        Knowledge of assigned curriculum; knowledge of instructional methods

                        Ability to instruction students and manage their behavior

                        Lesson planning skills

                        Lesson presentation skills

                        Conflict resolution skills

                        Classroom management skills

                        Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

                        Technology skills as related to classroom presentation and record keeping

Strong knowledge of Internet and web-related technology

Ability to instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms

Ability to support students with computer set-up, navigation, and technology issues

 

            Work Conditions

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals, video/instructional equipment

Posture: Frequent standing and walking; bending/stooping and reaching fully above head, pushing, pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; reaching

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds)

Environment: Work inside from school, home, or location other than school building, may work outside; regular exposure to noise and computer monitors; may work prolonged or irregular hours; attend after school and night time activities occasionally; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to respond to needs in a timely manner in a high stress environment

Regular Attendance is an essential function

 

            Minimum Experience:

                        University/college required student teaching or approved internship

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Management

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans for in person and virtual learning that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  2. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
  3. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  4. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  5. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
  6. Cooperatively meet and plan with other members of the staff to implement instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
  7. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  8. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).
  9. Employ the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development

  1. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  2. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and summative assessments and track progress through a variety of methods.
  3. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
  4. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
  5. Create an in-person and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Classroom Management and Organization

  1. Establish effective classroom management and administer discipline in accordance with board policies, administrative regulations, and campus management plans.
  2. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  3. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

  1. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  2. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
  3. Communicate with students or parents on a regular basis via phone or video conference, email, or district-approved website.
  4. Maintain a positive and professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members through effective communication both verbally and written.
  5. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Participate in the district staff development program to improve job related skills.
  2. Participate and positively contribute to grade level and campus level collaboration.
  3. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  4. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  5. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations.
  6. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  7. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities and serve on staff committees as required.

Other

  1. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  2. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
  3. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers including the Texas Educator Code of Ethics

Coaching Responsibilities

  1. Fulfill all assigned coaching responsibilities at the campus.
  2. Provide input on athletic schedules to the Athletic Services Department.
  3. Help coordinate the selection of equipment and supplies for the sports program with the Athletic Director.
  4. Responsible to design the philosophy and methods of instruction in the teaching of the sport assigned.
  5. Assume responsibility for the athletic property used in the programs supervised by the Athletic Director.
  6. Visit the middle schools, conduct clinics, and orientate middle school cluster coaches with the philosophy of the head coach in the respective sports program.
  7. Understand and adhere to all UIL and local AISD athletic policies.
  8. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the District.
  9. Prepare for classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal.
  10. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
  11. Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline and punishment in accordance with Board policies and administrative regulations.
  12. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.
  13. Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  14. Maintain accurate, complete records as required by TEA, school law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
  15. Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service programs.
  16. Make provision for being available to students and parents for educational and athletic-related purposes.
  17. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  18. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, and parents.
  19. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  20. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
