PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist students with disabilities in job exploration and integration within the community.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

            Minimum Education/Certification:

            High School Diploma & meet the District’s formal academic assessment required by Every

            Student Succeeds Act  OR

            Associates (or higher) degree OR 48 college credit hours

            Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate

            Valid Texas Driver’s License

           

            Special Knowledge/Skills:

            Effective verbal and written communication skills as well as a high degree of literacy and

            mental capabilities           

            Must be familiar with child labor laws and the federal guidelines which govern Community Job                                                Exploration Training (CJET)

            Must be able to work in a variety of jobs, time schedules and with a variety of people

            Possess systematic training skills

            Work harmoniously with student, parents, and school personnel

            Follow written and/or oral directions and to exercise good judgment

            Change assignment or duties during the year to meet the needs of students as students enter

            or exit programs

            Trained in basic first aid protocol or ability to be trained by District

            Travel to various locations throughout the district                      

           

            Work Conditions:

            Tools/Equipment Used: Equipment

            Posture: Frequent standing and walking; bending/stooping and reaching fully above head,

            pushing, pulling, and twisting

            Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; reaching; manual

            dexterity and physical capabilities to perform all job requirements; physically perform jobs

            assigned to students

            Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with

            physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory

            students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment

            Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; attend after school and night time

            activities occasionally; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement

            weather), exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards; travel to various locations

            throughout the district

            Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress;

            ability to respond to needs in a timely manner in a high stress environment

            Regular Attendance is an essential function

 

            Minimum Experience:

            Experience in working with students with disabilities preferred  

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Assume responsibility for on the job training of students with disabilities.
  2. Participate in District staff development programs.
  3. Provide on-going student support and/or assistance at the job site.
  4. Initiate solutions to problems at the training site and provide written notification to CJET Coordinator.
  5. Train students one-on-one to perform a variety of jobs to employer's specifications.
  6. Maintain accurate documentation of student progress through daily written evaluations to comply with Department of Labor regulations.
  7. Provide classroom teacher a copy of written evaluations and six weeks grade.
  8. Maintain accurate, strict documentation of hours worked by each student to comply with federal guidelines.
  9. Give appropriate praise and strive to ensure each student is successful.
  10. Teach work ethics to students and models good behavior.
  11. Modify jobs and job sites to facilitate student success.
  12. Conduct or review ecological analysis of job sites.
  13. Intervene physically when necessary to prevent student injury to self or others.
  14. Initiate first-aid or handles emergency situations without supervision of school personnel.
  15. Facilitate relationships between co-workers, supervisors and students.
  16. Communicate with students, parents, teachers, diagnosticians, the transition coordinator and the CJET coordinator regarding student interests, preferences, job skills, vocational evaluations and job training.
  17. Act as liaison between the school, parents, businesses, and community.
  18. Maintain confidentiality.
  19. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  20. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  21. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
