PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist skilled Painter in all phases of work associated with the painting trade including surface preparation, graffiti

removal and interior and exterior painting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification

High School Diploma or GED – preferred

Licensure

Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade

Ability to properly apply paints/ Mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, enamel, and other finishes.

Ability to estimate materials and time required to complete various tasks.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work cooperatively with others.

Ability to work independently and be detail oriented

Ability to read blueprints and schematics correctly

Work Conditions
Tools/Equipment Used: Painting and drywall tools and equipment including brush, roller, spray equipment sand and water blaster; small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel; maintain emotional control under stress

Minimum Experience

1 year experience in painting field- preferred

 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
2. Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
3. Engage in the maintenance and upkeep of the interior and exterior of AISD campuses.
4. Drywall patch and repair and other preparatory work on surface imperfections.
5. Utilize sanders, spray guns, sanding blocks, etc. in order to complete quality work.
6. Graffiti removal.
7. Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
8. Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
9. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.
10. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
11. Maintain equipment to insure proper performance.
12. Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
13. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
14. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
15. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
